“The future is now!”  Over the years I have often heard this slogan as a way of challenging people to seize the moment.  That is always our challenge.  Too often people spend their lives in a waiting room of sorts.  They are always waiting for this or that development in order to move ahead with plans and dreams.  Life has a way of happening while we are waiting for something else.  A phrase from Scripture speaks to this issue; “Redeeming the time because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16)  More modern English versions render that phrase “Redeeming the time” as “making the most of every opportunity”.  In my view, the modern rendering fails to account for times that do not seem on the surface to be times of “opportunity”.  Many people wait until an opportunity presents itself.  I believe that those who redeem the time present the opportunity.  My point is that each day of life is an opportunity whether it appears to be so or not.  We can present an opportunity by seizing the day for the glory of God.  God’s commands are clear.  Move at his command and watch the opportunities rise up all around you.

How is that for a New Year’s resolution?
